Press Release - Defection: Orisun-Igbomina Chieftain hails court judgement.

Date: 2014-04-01

As the court yesterday ruled against the 37 members of the Federal House of Representatives asking them to vacate their seats following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress, (APC), there is no doubt this is another milestone in the annals of our nascent democracy.

To be precise, the defectors got it quite wrong to have still wanted to continue enjoying the fruits of the labour of their erstwhile party which brought them to limelight with no sense of patriotism and consideration, rather, they are much more concern about their individual interests.

They dogmatically defected from PDP with little or no attention to the would-be consequence of their actions ranging from forming parallel nPDP to the eventuality that led to their joining APC. If the court then sack them, who is to be blamed?

I commend the judiciary for giving them their dues as hypocrites since they refused to tender their resignation honourably on joining the APC but shall be compelled to do so now in line with the verdict of the court.

There is no doubt that such decision as taken by the court shall further strengthen our democracy as a nation and also serve as precedence for future time. I commend President Goodluck Jonathan for addressing party issues judiciously with all sense of maturity without cohesion or the likes.

I hereby urge members of Peoples' Democratic Party, (PDP) in Kwara State to endeavour to participate actively in the on-going registration exercise in the state and never give up to intimidations and frustration from any individual or groups.

We believe strongly in PDP and we shall continue to work towards delivering Kwarans from the 'political den' of Sen. Bukola Saraki led political structure in the state come 2015.

Chief Gbenga Awoyale, President-General, Orisun-Igbonima.
