Press Release: Why Kwarans rejected PDP - Kwara APC

Date: 2014-04-01

The Kwara State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the continued postponement of membership registration by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State as signal to unlimited failures.

We welcome the decision of the sinking PDP for rising to our challenge to conduct membership registration. However, we view the continued postponement of membership registration by the opposition PDP has induced by its rejection by the good people of Kwara State and signal to unlimited failures.

If the PDP handlers are not amaurotic, this is a clear indication that Kwarans have forged ahead with the APC after the mass abandonment of the PDP. Why has the PDP postponed membership registration four times? The truth is that each time they attempt to conduct it - they are met with stiff opposition from the good people of Kwara State who now have better understanding of the PDP and its ill-conceived slogan. It is a party characterised by pursuit of selfish interests, ambitions and bargain for monies and contracts at Abuja. A slogan built on deceit to cuddle sentiments deserves no sympathy hence the rejection of the PDP and its slogan by the good people of Kwara State.

The politics of rented crowd has failed the PDP. Where are the rented PDP members from about six neighbouring states that attended its last rally? Will they be mobilized back into the state to make their membership registration a success since the good people of Kwara State have rejected the sinking PDP? A party that cannot successfully conduct the membership registration of its few members can not be entrusted with the management of Kwara State.

Even, with its target of 200,000 which is just 53.5% of our membership strength, the PDP has failed to record any success. This is a weak opposition party. The PDP should get to the real business of a serious opposition party. When we had the registration of our members, it was carnival-like in nature. The youths participated, the aged were involved, the elders registered with APC, Kwarans in diaspora travelled back home to participate, market women, artisans, drivers and all classes of the society were involved.

We appeal to our members and supporters not to be distracted by the deceitful propaganda of the out-of-favour PDP. The administration of Governor Ahmed Abdulfatai and the APC will continue to make Kwarans the focus of policies and programs.

Alhaji Sulyman Buhari,
Interim Publicity Secretary, APC, Kwara State.
