Kwara Assembly bans sale of handouts in institutions.
Kwara State House of Assembly has banned the sale of handouts to students in all its post-secondary institutions.
The legislature announced the prohibition of handout sales in its resolution after adopting the report of its Committee on Education and Human Capital Development on the alleged illegal sales of handouts in some schools.
Chairman of the committee, Nimata Ibrahim, while presenting the report, intimated her colleagues that some lecturers in most tertiary institutions in the state indulge in cheating the students through the sales of handouts in various courses.
Deputy Speaker, Gana Yissa, who presided over Thursday plenary, while reading the resolution of the House, said the lawmakers henceforth stamped out sales of handouts to students in all tertiary institutions in the state.
The House, however, directed management of all tertiary institutions in the state to ensure strict compliance of all lecturers with the directive.
The legislators also ordered the management of the affected institutions to take disciplinary measures on erring lecturers and directed management of all institutions in the state to adopt conference marking, with a view to ensuring sanity in the education system.
It is recalled that the House directed its Committee on Education to investigate the alleged sales of handouts in some tertiary institutions in the state on 17, January, 2013.
This was consequent upon urgent matter of public importance on the issue raised by member representing Omupo constituency, Mashood Bakare.
