Kwara secondary schools volleyball finals to begin Feb. 26
The finals of the 2013 edition of D-Kit Kwara Secondary Schools Volleyball championship will hold from Feb. 26 to Feb. 28 at the Indoor Sports hall of the state stadium.
The Chairman, Kwara Volleyball Association, Kayode Bankole, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Ilorin.
Bankole, who is also a board member of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), said the competition was being sponsored by a former volleyball player in the state.
He said that the competition was in fulfillment of one of the promises made when he was appointed to manage volleyball in the state.
“When we took over, one of our plans was to develop volleyball from the grassroots, especially from the schools.
“We will do all within our reach to ensure that volleyball continues to develop in the state, just to produce future stars,’’ Bankole, who is the Special Assistant to Kwara Governor on Sports Matters, said.
He said trophies, medals and certificates would be given out to outstanding teams and players at the end of the competition.
Bankole said schools for the finals include Arandun Grammar School, Arandun, Ansar-U-deen College, Offa, Gold Academy, Ilorin, Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran, and Iloffa Grammar School, Iloffa.
Others are Iwo Comprehensive High School, Iwo, Osi Central Secondary School, Osi, and Oyun Baptist High School, all in the male category.
In the female category are Anglican Girls College, Iludun-Oro, Government Girls Day Secondary School, Oko-Erin, Gold Academy, Ilorin, Iloffa Grammar School, Iloffa, and Offa Grammar School, Offa.
Others are Osi Central Secondary School, Osi, Iwo Comprehensive High School, Iwo, and Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin.
Bankole added that 50 volleyball cases from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) would also be available for distribution to 25 secondary schools in the three senatorial districts of the state.
