Kwara ready to unleash future stars
The Kwara Athletics Association believes they have at least six talented athletes who should be picked for the Commonwealth Games.
Johnson Abiodu, head coach of Kwara, says they discovered the youngsters at the 2013 National Youth Games (NYG) and he feels they are more than good enough to head to Glasgow later this year.
"We have six athletes who we strongly believe possess the potential to represent Nigeria at the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Their development has been positive," he told the News Agency of Nigeria.
"They are young and vibrant but not too young to compete at the highest level. We have six of them who can turn the fortunes of this country at the Games.
"Right now we are preparing them for the Golden League coming up in February and we will use that to further assess their performances."
After unearthing the youngsters at the NYG, Abiodu is already looking forward to the National Sports Festival, dubbed the "Paradise Games", in Calabar in November to not only scout for more future stars, but also give the current ones an opportunity to perform on the big stage.
