Kwara college seeks govt's intervention over unpaid salary

The management of Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS) has appealed to the state government for a special financial intervention to enable it pay the backlog of salary arrears owed its staff.

The college, Daily Trust gathered has been struggling to pay half salary to its workers for about 15 months owing to "acute financial" incapacity. 

Speaking at the second matriculation ceremony of 70 newly admitted students for degree courses in the college, the provost, Dr. Musa Abdullahi, also called for an increase in the school's monthly subvention to enable it pay full salaries.

He said, "The college also deserves yearly capital grants from the government for further developmental projects".

He said the college which was established over 20 years ago as an affiliate of Bayero University Kano (BUK), now has the capacity to run degree programmes, adding that plans were on to float degree programmes in Islamic Studies, Arabic and B.Sc Library Science and Information Technology.

Abdullahi advised the new students to abide by the rules of the college which according to him, had reputation for producing graduates of high moral and academic standard.

Chairman, Governing Council of the College, Dr Saadu Korogba in his address assured that the college's request would be conveyed to Governor Abdulftaah Ahmed for necessary action.
