Attack on referee: Kwara Utd apologises to minister, NRA
Kwara United FC on Wednesday apologised to the Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) over an attack on a match official last season.
The apology is contained in a communique issued in Ilorin on Wednesday and signed by Jimoh Oke, the Communique Drafting Committee Chairman.
It was issued at the end of the club's stakeholders' (ex-chairmen and secretaries) meeting at the swimming pool arena of the Kwara Stadium.
The meeting condemned hooliganism at the stadium and called on stakeholders to end it.
The referee Christopher Durunna, from Abia, was attacked in the week 29 duel involving Kwara United and Warri Wolves on Aug. 31, 2013 at the stadium.
It urged fans and supporters, including the management, to cooperate with security agents before, during and after each match.
The communique urged all stakeholders to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship at all times by accepting the result matches.
It emphasised the need for staff of the club to work within their jurisdiction.
The stakeholder commended the state government for the appointment of the current management and passed a vote of confidence on them.
The meeting urged the state government to adequately fund the team, to ensure its quick promotion to the premier league next season.
The meeting was organised to enhance the team's chances of picking a promotion ticket at the end of the forthcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season. (NAN)
