Kwara Assembly seek relocation of markets

Date: 2013-11-22

The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday called on councils in the state to commence the process of relocating roadside markets in their respective areas.

The House also directed the state Ministry of Environment and law enforcement agencies to enforce the environmental sanitation laws.

This followed a motion titled, "Roadside markets and attendant implication on the lives of the people,"by  Felicia Ebun Owolabi and three other members.

Members, who spoke on the motion, said it was timely, considering the effects of roadside markets on the state.

The deputy speaker, Professor Mohammed Gana Yisa, who presided over the session urged the state government to deploy relevant law enforcement agents to areas where there are such markets to control traffic.

"As short term measure, the state government should deploy relevant law enforcement agents to these roadside markets on their market days to control traffic,"he said.
