All 15 out-going council chairmen in Kwara State have resigned, Daily Trust learnt last night. Their resignation came two weeks to the expiration of their tenures on November 27. It was not clear why they resigned, but official sources told Daily Trust the resignation came after a meeting with former Governor Bukola Saraki and leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

One of the council chairmen confirmed to Daily Trust correspondent they had all resigned from their positions. The former chairman refused to speak further, saying he was in a meeting. When contacted, spokesman of PDP in the state, Alhaji Mas'ud Adebimpe, said he was not aware of the development but it was gathered that the newly elected chairmen might be sworn-in today by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Sources said the resignation of the chairmen may not be unconnected with the crisis in the PDP which has split the party into old and new with Kwara aligning with the latter. It would be recalled that those with the old PDP in the state had challenged the selection of PDP candidates for the election conducted on October 26 with the case still in the Federal High Court.
