Kwara Holds School Sports Festival
Kwara State Government is to stage School Sports Festival among Schools in all the 15 Local Government Areas as a way to develop Sports at the School level and the rural areas.
Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mrs Rhoda Ajiboye disclosed this while receiving the national president of Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed during a courtesy call to the Ministry.
She said government had given approval for the staging of the tournament that would hold before the end of this year in all the three senatorial districts, noting that the idea was aimed at developing sports at the grassroots levels.
The Permanent Secretary who described sports as an avenue to develop the youths morally stressed the need to take Sports to Schools as was the case in the past.
Mrs Ajiboye reiterated government ready to assist the NSSF in hosting the forthcoming National School Sports Festival.
Earlier, NSSF boss, Ibrahim Mohammed emphasized the need to revive school sports in the Country.
He called for synergy and working relationship between the Ministries of Education, Sports and Youth Development in the Country to allow School Sports takes it rightful place.
He said over six thousand Athletes and two thousand officials across the Country would converge in Ilorin this year for the National School Sports Festival, adding that Kwara State was picked as a result of the harmony and existing peace in the State.
