Ajibola assures Kwara workers enhanced welfare package
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kwara, Senator Simon Ajibola on Tuesday promised workers in the State enhanced welfare package if voted into power on the 11th April ballot.
Senator Ajibola made the promise while speaking on Radio Nigeria Harmony FM, Idofian special live programme.
The Senator said he would restore the workers’ leave bonuses that have been allegedly cleverly cancelled by the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) State government led by outgoing governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The PDP governorship flagbearer stated that his administration would also ensure prompt payment of salaries and wages.
He lamented that Kwara workers were one of the least paid in the country and promised to bring their pay to be at par with those of the best paid state workers around.
He said besides training and retraining of the state’s civil servants, a conducive environment would be provided to enhance workers’ productivity.
Ajibola added that a PDP government in Kwara would also emphasise skills acquisition training in order to make their knowledge functional and relevant to their careers.
He further assured workers that he would put stop to the current career stagnation going on in the state’s civil service, restore merit and lost glory to Kwara public service.
The PDP flagbearer said his administration would emphasise technical education and skills acquisition for the youths in order to make them readily employable and self employed.
He announced that the PDP government would introduce true free education from primary to secondary school and scholarship for tertiary institution students of Kwara origin.
Ajibola said other targeted groups to benefit from the enhanced welfare packages if elected are widows, pensioners, farmers, old people and the teeming unemployed youths.
He said while workers would continue to enjoy steady promotion with financial back up as at when due, pensioners too would not be left out in the steady increase of their pensions and prompt payment of their gratuities on exit from service.
He said local and foreign investors would be wooed into the state to set up industries to absorb Kwara young graduates.
The Senator said youths, widows, pensioners and members of the business community would be empowered and encouraged to set up more small and medium enterprises.
He said the steps were to reduce the poverty, youth unemployment and improve on the socio-economic wellbeing of the state’s citizenry.
Ajibola said the days of subsistence farming were numbered in Kwara as PDP would change the age long cutlass and hoe system to mechanised agriculture.
He said each of the 16 Local Government Areas of the state would be provided two tractors for farmers to hire at low and affordable rate.
He added that farmers would also be given agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, insecticides, spraying machines and low interest loans to boost food production and security.
Ajibola stated that if the state resources were judiciously spent and better managed the people would have no business with poverty.
