Court activities resume in Kwara

Judicial activities has resumed in all courts across Kwara state, North central Nigeria, following the suspension of a six week old strike embarked upon by members of the Judiciary staff union of Nigeria.

Voice of Nigeria correspondent who went round courts within Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, reports that normal life had returned to the courts; including Area and magistrates courts.

 

The Chairman of the Kwara state chapter of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, Mrs. Folake Laaro, told Voice of Nigeria that the strike was called off based on agreements reached with the state government over their demands.

 

Mrs Laaro, commended the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Kamaldeen Ajibade for the role he played in ensuring that normalcy returned to judicial activities in the state.

She expressed hope that government would honour the agreement reached with the union.

 

Laaro also expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Durosinloun Kawu for his patience, understanding and the fatherly role he played in the mediation process.

 

Also, the Chief Registrar of the state High Court Mr Lekan Adegbite confirmed the resumption and charged staff of the Judiciary to work assiduously to justify government gesture on the agreement reached.

Mr Adegbite enjoined them to be more dedicated to their duties as the judiciary was always seen as the last hope of the common man.

Reacting to the resumption, the Chairman of the House of Assembly committee on Judiciary, Ethics and Public Petitions, Prince Kamaldeen Fagbemi commended the state government for amicably resolving the issue.

Fagbemi noted that the decision of the state government has justified its commitment to abide by the rule of law
