Outrage, shock trail suicide by Prof's hubby
Many residents of Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday expressed shock and sadness over the suicide committed by Mr. Olubunmi Olademo, a husband to a lecturer in the Religions Department of University of Ilorin, Prof. Oyeronke.
Olademo was said to have requested money from Oyeronke on Tuesday but the woman turned down the request which allegedly prompted the decease to commit suicide while his lifeless body was discovered in the family's uncompleted building.
The Professor, our correspondent gathered, hails from Ikire, Irewole Local government of Osun State and was said to have been married to Mr. Gbenga Olajubu, who is an Osogbo-based politician and businessman.
Her first marriage with Olajubu was said to have hit the rocks over some irreconcilable differences few years ago and she later remarried to Olademo.
Some of the students from University of Ilorin said on Face Book, a social media network, that the development was very pathetic.
For Mr. Ibitoye Iyanuoluwa, it was very pathetic while Tommiwa Makaveli said it was sardonic and wondered what could happened.
Many other people expressed disbelief an shock over such an incident. Deputy Director, Information, UNILORIN, Dr. Mafhouz Adedimeji said the incident was very sad and had thrown the university community into an unhappy state.
Chairman, Inter-Religious Committee, Kwara State, Alhaji Mohammed Koro said the development was condemnable. He stated that nobody, no matter how bad the situation is, should take his life.
"No religion permits anybody to take his own life. God that gives life and He did not permit anybody to take his life or that of someone else's.
Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Kwara State branch, Dr. James Foloranmi advised people not to commit suicide but to trust God in all situations.
He said, "The development is foreign to our culture. It is against our religion to kill oneself. No body should take his or her life. People should trust God."
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ezekiel Dabo said the matter was still under investigation.
Efforts to get Oyeronke to respond was unsuccessful as calls placed on her mobile phone indicated that it was switched off.
When our correspondent visited the suicide scene on Thursday, a stool was seen on the floor of one of the rooms in the uncompleted building. Also a knife was seen on an opening in a ceiling of the building.
