Belgore rejects appointment as member of Kwara APC Governing Board
The crisis within the Kwara State chapter of the All progressives Congress, APC, may be far from over as one of its members, Dele Belgore, on Tuesday turned down his appointment into the party’s Governing Council.
Mr. Belgore announced his rejection of the appointment via a statement by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaiye. He said he was not consulted before it was made.
He had been named a member of the council on Monday.
“Our attention has been drawn to a so-called Kwara APC Governing Board in which Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN) is listed as a member,” Mr. Belgore said in the statement.
“We wish to state that Belgore SAN’s name was put on the so-called list without his consent. He hereby rejects membership of the board.
“We state also that Mr. Belgore will never be part of any arrangement that perpetrates any evil status quo that the people of Kwara so earnestly – and genuinely – wish to do away with.”
Mr. Belgore, who was the governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, had kicked against the handing over of APC structure in the states to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defectors; led by former governor Bukola Saraki.
The state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, had joined four PDP other governors to decamp to the APC.
Also, 20 members of the Kwara State House of Assembly and the 16 chairmen of the local government areas as well as their councilors have since defected from the PDP to the APC.
