BEING PRESS STATEMENT BY ALHAJI TOYIN OLOSASA, FOR HIMSELF AND ON BEHALF OF EXECUTIVE MEMBERS OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) IN ILORIN WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KWARA STATE

Date: 2014-09-04

Gentlemen of the Press,

It has become imperative to bring to the urgent attention of the public, particularly President Goodluck Jonathan and the National leadership of our great party led by Alhaji (Dr) Adamu Muazu on the rape of justice being currently orchestrated by the chairman of the PDP in Kwara State, Barr. Iyiola Akogun Oyedepo over the unlawful and illegal inauguration of a factional chairman of the PDP led by a certain Alhaji Amuda Olugbon.

Recall that on the 10th April, 2014 the Kwara PDP congress held. At the end of the exercise, I, Alhaji Toyin Olosa, together with other executive members emerged as the winners of the said congress. This much was affirmed by the PDP Appeal Panel led by Pam Gyang as reflected in the report of the said Appeal Panel dated 14th April, 2014.

But to our dismay, the Kwara PDP chairman, attempted to swear in the illegal Alhaji Amuda Olugbon-led Executive on Tuesday 26th August, 2014. That unpopular attempt was resisted by the majority of members of the PDP from Ilorin West on the fateful day.

As a result of this stalemate, especially the palpable fear that Chief Iyiola, in cohort with some chieftains of the PDP in the state was going to inaugurate the illegal executive committee led by Alhaji Yusuf Amuda Olugbon, I, on behalf of other members of my Executive approached the Kwara State High Court for redress and got an order of court dated 1st September, 2014 restraining the leadership of the PDP from swearing in the Alhaji Yusuf Amuda Olugbo-led factional executives pending the determination of the substantive suit. The said court order was effectively served on the PDP yesterday, 2nd September 2014.

But in obvious contempt of the order of the High Court, Chief Iyiola today unilaterally swore in the illegal executives led by Olugbon at a clandestine meeting, which held at a private hotel in Ilorin.

We are both dismayed and gravely disappointed that the Chairman of our party, who should be suing for resolution and working towards our party wining the General Election, would act in a way that would further divide the party. Ilorin West Local Government is the most populous local government in Kwara State. Akogun Iyiola should remember that this is democracy and should therefore act accordingly.

It is in the light of the above that we alert the general public to the threat to peace being deliberately foisted on the party by Chief Akogun and his sponsors.

As the lawful executives of the PDP in Ilorin West, we posit without equivocation that the purported inauguration of Olugbon is illegal, unlawful, void, and of no effect in law and in facts. We shall resist this illegality to the very last end with all the instrument of law at our disposal.

Signed:
Alhaji Toyin Olosasa
Chairman, Ilorin West LGA
3rd September 2014
