ODU laments bad roads in Offa
AN umbrella body of all associations in the ancient city of Offa, Offa Descendants Union (ODU), has lamented bad state of township roads in the area.
Speaking at a town hall meeting organised by Kwara South political appointees in the present administration in the state, at Offa, a chieftain of ODU, Chief Banji Orilonise, called on concerned authorities in the state to repair the roads.
The ODU chieftain, who is also a retired High Court Judge, identified some of the township roads to include Olofa Way, Offa Ikotun and Offa-Erin-Ile roads.
He described Offa town as the next largest town in the state after Ilorin, saying that the ancient town should be accorded due recognition and attention.
Chief Orilonise, who commended both the local and state governments on their development efforts, particularly lauded the state government for the renovation of general hospitals in Kwara South.
He, however, said that government should equip the hospitals and provide them with personnel.
The association also described the establishment of the International Vocational Centre, Ajase Ipo, meant to train youths for skill acquisition, as a right step to empower youths for economic prosperity and self-reliance.
It however, called on the state government to ensure fair share of employment opportunities, saying indigenes of the area are fewer in the state civil service.
Chief Orilonise, who said the town was still indebted to the tune of N80 million over the construction of ODU town hall, requested Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to assist in settling part of the debt, as part of measures to show his love for people of the area.
Also speaking, members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), farmers union, market men and women associations, commended the efforts of the state government, saying it should not relent.
