Construction Firm Truck Kills 4 in Auto-Crash
Tragedy struck along Osogbo-Ikirun road in Osun State when a truck, belonging to a construction firm (names withheld), handling the dualisation of Osogbo-Ila Odo-Kwara boundary made a U-turn on the highway, thereby causing a fatal auto crash, which resulted in the death of four persons.
Sunday Tribune reliably gathered that the driver of the truck was said to have been allegedly drunk when the accident occurred around 4.30 p.m around Nigeria Machine Tool, Industry, situated along the road, under construction.
Credible source informed our correspondent that the four persons that died in the crash were inside a saloon car, behind the truck coming from Ikirun to Osogbo.
Two of the occupants of the ill fated saloon car were auto spare parts traders at Ajegunle spare parts market in Osogbo, but gave two other persons lift from Ikirun before the accident occurred.
Eyewitness said that immediately the truck made an unexpected U-turn, their vehicle rammed under the truck and all of them died on the spot before help could reach them.
Their charred remains were retrieved from the wreckage of the car and taken to the morgue of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) teaching hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
However, the police impounded the truck that caused the accident and drove it to the premises of the Dugbe Police Station, located at Station Road, in Osogbo, the state capital.
When contacted, the sector commander of the Osun State Command of the FRSC, Mr Mohammed Al-Hassan Huseini, said he was outside the state on official engagement and could not confirm the development as of the time of filing this report.
In a related development, no fewer than four people narrowly escaped death on Saturday as a tanker , loaded with 33,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit , popularly known as petrol, tumbled on the popular Iyana Isolo bridge in Lagos.
Also about nine trailer trucks, fully loaded with petrol and diesel late on Saturday evening went up in flames, creating pandemonium in Mazamaza area of the state.
The truck emptied its content on the road, near Daleko Bus Stop but the timely intervention of the Lagos State Fire and Emergency Agency prevented an explosion at the scene.
Two vehicles , including a Nissan Pathfinder Sport Utility Vehicle and a Daewoo Racer saloon car were badly crushed by the truck .
