Kwara United, Sunshine fined 2m each, to replay aborted tie

Date: 2012-03-23

NPL sides Kwara United and Sunshine Stars have been fined 2 million Naira each and ordered to replay their disputed Week 12 match. The replay, which will be fixed by the NPL, will be behind closed doors, according to the organising and disciplinary committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The scores of the match were 1-1 before trouble broke out at the Ilorin Township Stadium after a top Sunshine official ran on to the pitch with minutes to spare and alleged he was attacked by rival fans.

The NPL earlier banished Kwara to Abuja and awarded Sunshine three points and three goals for.

In the meantime, Sunshine have said they will protest against the walkover they suffered in a rescheduled game against ABS in Ilorin on Wednesday.

A top official simply informed MTNFootball.com that they could not honour the game in Ilorin because of their trip to Angola for a CAF Champions League game.

The Akure club have up till close of work Friday to make a formal protest against their walkover.
