Akanbi Tasks Nigerians on less-privileged Persons
The former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Justice Mustapha Akanbi (rtd), at the weekend, called on wealthy individuals to cater for the needs of the less privileged persons in the society by giving back to the society for the development of the country.
Akanbi, who made the call while delivering an address at the unveiling of the Kwara Citizenship Development Initiative (KCDI), in Ilorin, noted that wealthy people should be ready to give back to the society.
According to him, "the initiative of the organisation to start giving empowerment to widows, orphans and the indigent to make life meaningful to them is commendable."
The former ICPC boss, who called on wealthy individuals at all level to continue to support such initiatives for the good of the people, the state and the country in general, advised the owners of the project to discharge their affairs with the fear of God, adding that such was the only way through which the organisation could move forward.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of KCDI, Dr. Amuda Aluko, said the purpose of the organisation was not for political reasons, but to create awareness among people to understand their rights.
He said most of them went to school and get appointed to high position without spending anything and that there was need for them to also contribute and give back to the society so that people could develop.
Aluko, who is the Tafida of Ilorin, said Nigeria was not a poor country, stressing that people were only poor as a result of greed and corruption at high level.
He said the question of imposition of people on others should not obtain, adding that people should be allowed to choose their leaders at all levels.
