Baraje promises efficient railway

Date: 2013-06-24

The Chairman, Governing Council of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje has disclosed his plan to build an efficient railway system that can compete favorably with rail transportation anywhere in the world.
Baraje who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin at the weekend at the graduation ceremony  of the students of Baraje Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies, said he will work in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan in ensuring efficient rail transportation in the country.
He said "The President has vision for railway as part of his transformation agenda; and the vision is that at the end of his term, he wants to see efficient railway transportation that is highly comparable to anywhere in the world, and that is my own vision too because I'm building on the transformation agenda which I'm part of.
"I want to take railway to the highest height where Nigerians will be very proud of rail transportation".
Baraje noted that efficient railway transportation will serve as solution to the yearnings and sufferings of the people in moving across the country.
Speaking on the emergence of the All Progressives Congress resulting from the merger of three major opposition parties, the former National Chairman of the ruling party said "PDP is not jittery about the emergence of APC, because when you listen to the comment of PDP stakeholders, including the president it shows that we described it as welcome idea because it is going to put PDP on its toes to do even more for Nigerians".
On zoning arrangement, Baraje said  section 2 (7) of the constitution of the party is very clear on the issue, maintaining that as a law abiding party, PDP will follow its constitution on zoning issue as at when due.
Commenting on the Nigeria Governors' Forum crisis, he described NGF as a desirable pressure group and autonomous body formed by the leaders of various states, adding  whatever crisis they have is only peculiar to their operations because  there is little that any party can do to exert authority on NGF.
