Kwara to install 100 transformers in 16 LGAs

Date: 2013-06-08

The Kwara Government on Friday in Ilorin said it had released 100 electricity transformers for installation in rural communities across the state's 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The state's Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Tunji Moronfoye, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the measure was aimed at accelerating socio-economic development in rural areas.

"When electricity is available in rural areas, it will reduce the rural-urban drift and boost the economy of rural areas.''

The commissioner who did not list the communities to benefit from the transformer installation gave an assurance that several communities would benefit across the state's three senatorial districts.

Moronfoye said the State Government had approved N635 million to be distributed among the 16 Local Government Councils for the execution of infrastructural projects.

''Some of the projects expected to be executed with the fund are road rehabilitation, community self-help projects, provision of health facilities, water supply, among others,'' he said.(NAN)
