Omu-Aran: Motorcyclist killed while separating 2 brothers brawl
A commercial motorcyclist, identified as Rasheed Bello, was killed on Wednesday while trying to settle a brawl between two brothers, Dapo Alabi and Kunle Alabi.
The death of Mr. Bello threw households on Taiwo Road in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, into confusion.
The brothers were said to have been engaged in hot argument over changing of PHCN cable around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday when the incident happened.
The deceased, a 34-year-old technician, was trying to separate the brothers when he was hit with a wooden plank on the head by Kunle, the senior brother.
Bello, who sustained serious injury, was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was treated and brought back home on Tuesday night.
His health was said to have deteriorated leading to his death in the early hours of Wednesday.
A witness, Suleiman Abiodun, said that Dapo had on the said night brought out a ladder to effect a change on PHCN connection to the house following an outage, a move which was resisted by Kunle.
Kunle was said to have warned Dapo of the consequences of his action but instead of backing down, he threatened the brother with cutlasses and broken bottle.
The witness said, "Dapo's action infuriated his elder brother and a wooden plank meant for him landed on the head of Bello.''
Both Dapo and Kunle were said to have packed their belongings and fled the town after learning of Mr. Bello's death.
Rasak Adebayo, the Divisional Police Officer in Omu-Aran, who confirmed the incident, said the mother of the accused, Deborah Alabi, was assisting the police in its investigation.
"We have the mother of the accused person in our custody and effort is in top gear to locate the accused who are now at large," Mr. Adebayo said.
