Date: 2013-05-27

Nineteen candidates have signified interest to contest the Chairmanship of Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Oke-Ero, Chief Joseph Adeniyi, disclosed this at the Party's General Meeting held in Ekan, Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the State. Chief Adeniyi said the candidates would be screened to ensure that a consensus candidate emerges to pick the Party's ticket in the local government election. Chief Adeniyi while enumerating the achievements of the Council told the Ward Chairmen that more Millennium Development Projects were still coming to the area, and urged them to continue to maintain mutual co existence. Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Environment and Forestry, Barrister Anthony Kayode-Towoju, said the Party is waxing stronger in the Local government which made the opposition parties to decamp into the ruling PDP. Barrister Towoju noted that the decampees moved to the Party due to the laudable achievements recorded by Governor Abdufatah Ahmed in the last two years in office which cut across the nooks and crannies of the state. The Commissioner said the State government has embarked on road construction in the area, provision of drinkable water and assured the decampees that they would be carried along in the affairs of the Party. He said all the nineteen candidates vying for the chairmanship position would pass through screening inline with the Party's guidelines. Barrister Towoju noted that the continuity programme of Senator Bukola Saraki's administration has been nurtured and protected by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. Our Staff reporter, Olayinka Alaya, reports that more than eighty seven people from other Parties decamped into the ruling Party, at the event which was attended by members of the State Executive Council, Special Assistants and Party supporters in Ekan and other wards of the local government.
