Student in court for attempted fraud
The 24-year-old student was said to have been found of written threaten letters, which he would paste at the residences of unsuspected victims.
He had on May 4 allegedly wrote his threaten letter and pasted it in the house of Alhaji Saka Omolabi of No. 8, Samuel Adedoyin Street, Fate, Ilorin, instructing him to deposit the sum of N200,000 into a Guarantee Trust Bank account number 44247151590 or else he will die.
He was also said to have told Alhaji Omolabi that failure to comply with the above instruction he (accused) and his men will come and kill him.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that preliminary investigation conducted at 'F' Division Police Station, Tanke, Ilorin, revealed that the accused also pasted a similar threaten letter in the house of one Tunde Akande of No. 4, Owojaiye Close, G.R.A., Ilorin, on the same day.
The FIR added that when Mr. Akande was reporting the matter at the 'E' Division, Kulende, Ilorin, he fainted and it took the help of the DCO and other officers to revive him before he was rushed to Delink Hospital, Oja-Iya, Ilorin, for medical attention.
The prosecutor, Isaac Yakubu informed the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing. He objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody, Ilorin, till the next adjourned date.
The defence counsel, Barrister Ayinla Edun prayed the court to admit the accused to bail pending the outcome of the investigation.
He submitted further that the accused will not jump bail if granted one and will provide reliable sureties that would ensure his presence in court at ever adjourned date.
The trial magistrate, Mrs. S.O. Sambo, who agreed with the submission of the defence, released the accused on bail at the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 27 for further mention.
The accused appeared in court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit fraud, which contravene Sections 397(a) and 95 of Penal Code and 419 of Advance Fee Fraud.
