Kwara committed to community health promotion - Ahmed

Date: 2013-05-20

The Kwara State governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that the state's Community Health Insurance Scheme would drive his administration's effort in the promotion of maternal and child care programmes in the state.

Governor Ahmed gave this assurance when a delegation of the WellBeing Foundation Africa, founded by the wife of the former Governor of Kwara State, Mrs Toyin Saraki, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

The governor stressed the importance of advocacy in making sure the people, especially those at the grass roots, were better informed about health care programmes in order to adequately utilise such facilities.

The state government, according to the governor, would soon employ more sanitary inspectors as part of efforts to boost sanitary conditions and promote good health in the state, especially at the grass roots.

Governor Ahmed reiterated the resolve of his administration to partner with non-government organisations, such as WellBeing Foundation Africa, in the delivery of qualitative health care in the state.

The WellBeing Foundation team leader, Mr. Tayo Erogbogbo said the Foundation was committed to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in Africa.

Mr Erogbogbo said it was disturbing that Nigeria had one of the highest mother and child mortality rates in the world, hence the need for all stakeholders to partner in bringing the situation under control.
