Court Remands Son for Allegedly Slaughtering Father

Date: 2013-04-25

An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Wednesday remanded a 20-year old man, Ibrahim Sanni, in prison custody for allegedly slaughtering his father, Saliu Maigunjo.

The accused person was alleged to have killed his father by slaughtering him on March 31 along Woro Village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Zacheaus Funsho, told the court that the accused allegedly slaughtered the deceased because he (deceased) was a drunk, bringing shame to the family.

He also alleged that the accused was seen carrying out the dastardly act by one Iliyasu Sanni who is a brother to the accused.

The plea of the accused was, however, not taken but his counsel applied for his bail.

The prosecutor objected to the bail on the ground that the alleged offence was not ordinarily a bailable one.

The magistrate, Mr Micheal Joel, in his ruling, ordered that the accused be remanded in Mondala Prison, Ilorin and adjourned the case to May 13 for further mention. (NAN)
