The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said that the state government has sent a proposal to the Federal Government proposing the concession of the Ilorin Cargo Terminal being built by the state government.

Ahmed during a monthly public enlightenment programme in Ilorin on Tuesday said the concession was proposed for the private investors.

He added that the Federal Government had indicated support for the exercise.

According to him, the state government has expedited action on the project to ensure that necessary infrastructure and logistics are put to facilitate the concession of the terminal.

“The Federal Government has not come out with a clear policy on how it intends to manage its airports, especially on the issue of cargo, but we have presented a position to the Federal Government on the possibility of the concession of the cargo terminal in Ilorin to a private investor, that is DHL. The Federal Government is also receptive of this suggestion.

“On the strength of that, we want to do the first thing first, which is the completion of the apron. When we complete the apron, it means the cargo terminal is ready for use. We will now follow up with the Federal Government since it is willing to enable private sector participation in the cargo business.”

The governor said the cargo terminal was a laudable and proactive investment.
