Fire Victims Get N15m Relief in Kwara

Date: 2013-03-21

No fewer than 357 fire disaster victims that cut across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State were yesterday presented with  N15 million by the state government to cushion the effect of the disasters on them.

Special Adviser to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Emergency and Relief services Alhaji Musa Abdullahi who presented the cash to the victims urged them to shun activities that could trigger fire disaster.

The governor’s aide who noted that most fire disasters were human-induced said government cannot continue to spend money meant for infrastructure facilities on disasters.

“While we pray against disaster of any kind, we should also be wary of what we do that usually sparks off disasters so that government would not be spending money that is meant for provision of roads, quality education and health facilities, among other infrastructures, on disaster victims”, he said.
