We Are All Together: Hakeem Lawal Dismisses APC Rift, Says Party Will Unite Ahead of 2027

Date: 2026-08-31

Former Kwara State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election, Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal, has expressed confidence that the party will resolve its internal differences and remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lawal spoke at an APC stakeholders' engagement held at Arca Santa Arena, Ilorin, where party chieftains and members gathered alongside former cabinet members who served under the late former Governor Muhammad Lawal.

He said the event was organised to bring together old and new members of the political family, preserve the party's legacy and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on their political journey and agree on a common direction for the future.

Lawal recalled that the APC governed Kwara State until 2003 before spending 16 years in opposition and returning to power in 2019.

He said the approaching end of the current administration made it important for party stakeholders to strengthen unity and reaffirm their commitment to the party.

"We have gathered old and new loyalists. The beauty of it is that when there is a legacy, it naturally flows, and you get new entrants into it," Lawal said.

Reacting to reports of disagreements between the APC governorship candidate and his running mate, Kayode Alabi, Lawal dismissed the claims as propaganda and social media speculation.

"All that is propaganda. All that is social media talk. Don't follow social media talk," he said.

Speaking about The Otoge Progressives, Lawal described members of the group as brothers and an integral part of the APC family.

He said any disagreements within the political family would be resolved through dialogue and reconciliation.

"They are our brothers. They are part of us. We are all together; we are in this struggle together," he stated.

Lawal acknowledged that disagreements were inevitable in any family but expressed confidence that the party would overcome its differences through discussions and mutual understanding.

"I believe that with family, you have misunderstandings, but you will come together and sit around the table, discuss and find a way forward," he said.

The stakeholders' engagement also featured testimonies from former cabinet members of the late Governor Muhammad Lawal, who reflected on their experiences and the legacy of his administration.
