The Kwara State Government has recorded significant progress in the implementation of family planning programmes through sustained investment, strategic partnerships and strengthened service delivery aimed at improving reproductive health outcomes across the state.

The achievements were highlighted during the 2026/2027 Family Planning Mobile Outreach Scheduling Meeting organised by MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices in Ilorin.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to review previous achievements, assess implementation strategies and develop plans to expand access to quality family planning services for women and families across Kwara State.

Speaking at the meeting, the State Family Planning Coordinator, Hajia Bashirat Jatto, highlighted several milestones recorded by the state, including the establishment of a dedicated budget line for the procurement of family planning commodities.

She also disclosed that the state government has consistently released funds to support the last-mile distribution of family planning commodities, ensuring that essential reproductive health supplies reach healthcare facilities across the state.

Jatto further revealed that Kwara had trained healthcare workers on the use of the Hormonal Intrauterine Device (Hormonal-IUD), expanding the range of modern contraceptive options available to women.

She commended the Kwara State Government for its unwavering commitment to strengthening reproductive health services and improving access to family planning interventions.

Also speaking, the State Health Promotion Officer, Mallam Jubril Abdulkarim, praised MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices for its sustained support, noting that the organisation's interventions have significantly improved sexual and reproductive health services across the state.

In her remarks, the Acting Regional Manager (Southwest) of MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices, Mrs. Bolaji Akinsola, stressed the importance of evidence-based planning to ensure family planning services reach women and communities with the greatest need.

Similarly, the Regional Marketing and Communication Advisor, Mrs. Oyeronke Oyenusi, explained that the meeting reviewed the implementation of the 2025 outreach programme, including its successes, challenges and best practices.

She said participants also developed projections for the 2026 implementation year, identified and profiled service sites, and selected locations for the 2026/2027 mobile outreach programme.

According to Oyenusi, the engagement also focused on strengthening community mobilisation strategies, improving stakeholder collaboration and addressing operational challenges associated with difficult terrains.

She encouraged participants to actively contribute to discussions to ensure that site selection reflects local realities and programme priorities.

During the meeting, stakeholders reviewed key criteria for selecting primary service sites, including the capacity of health facilities, availability of trained healthcare providers, accessibility of communities, the estimated population of women of reproductive age and opportunities to strengthen family planning service delivery.

The meeting also provided a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, identify implementation challenges and recommend practical strategies to improve programme delivery across the state.

The outcome of the engagement is expected to guide the strategic deployment of family planning services across Kwara State, further improving reproductive health outcomes and supporting the state's goal of achieving universal access to quality family planning services.
