Unilorin ASUU Chair Restates Commitment to Members' Welfare

Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU, University of Ilorin branch,Professor Wahab Egbewole, has reiterated his commitment towards the wellbeing of the members of the union.

Egbewole who spoke in an interview with Vanguard, pointed out that the present executive was not disturbed by the judgement of the National Industrial Court.

He said: "We held a well attended congress where the issues were well discussed and resolutions were made.

"More than ever before, we are committed towards improving the welfare of our members. The present executive is not distracted at all and our members have been giving us the needed support."

The union had, yesterday, passed a vote of confidence on its chairman Professor Egbewole and other executive officers, as contained in a statement issued after its emergency congress held at the institution.

The statement was signed by its chairman, Professor Egbewole and secretary, Dr. Patrick Balogun. The statement entitled "Vote of confidence expressed on the leadership of Prof Wahab Egbewole as chairman of ASUU University of Ilorin chapter and other members of the executive committee," stated that "the ASUU Unilorin chapter is not a party to the case before the National Industrial Court and was not heard in the matter; and therefore should not be involved in the matter.

"ASUU Unilorin has not been served with a copy of any order of court setting aside the election of Professor Abdulwahab Egbewole led executive council of the union in the university."
