AbdulRazaq Presents Staff of Office to New Oniganmo of Ganmo, Charges Him on Peace and Unity

Date: 2026-04-10

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Thursday presented a third-class staff of office to the newly appointed Oniganmo of Ganmo, Oba Kamaldeen Jimoh Akanbi, with a charge to promote peace and unity in the community.

Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abubakar Bata, the Governor advised the newly appointed Oniganmo to extend a hand of fellowship to all contestants and interest groups with a view to fostering reconciliation and unity.

AbdulRazaq reminded the monarch that the throne he ascended is not merely a symbol of authority but one of service, sacrifice and responsibility.

The Governor emphasised that the throne is a sacred trust that requires wisdom, patience, and unwavering commitment to the peace, unity and development of the community.

He added that the newly appointed Oniganmo was chosen in the overall interest of peace and progress, and he tasked him to allow peace to reign supreme in the community.

"Leadership at this level demands inclusiveness, so, carry everyone along irrespective of past differences and ensure no one is alienated in the scheme of things.

"A united Ganmo is a stronger and more prosperous Ganmo. As the custodian of culture and tradition, you play a pivotal role in maintaining peace and security within your domain.

"I strongly admonish you to be security conscious and work closely with relevant security agencies, community leaders and vigilante groups to ensure safety of lives and property. Peace and security remain the bedrock of any meaningful development," the Governor said.

AbdulRazaq enjoined the monarch to actively contribute to strengthening the traditional institution within the local government and beyond.

Earlier, the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Hadji AbdulRasheed Yusuf, had stated that the emergence of the new Oniganmo followed due process, detailed scrutiny, wide consultations and strict adherence to the laid-down guidelines of chieftaincy administration.

He also reminded the new Oniganmo that his staff of office was not just a symbol of authority, but a call to service, and admonished him to lead with wisdom, fairness and fear of God.

The Oniganmo of Ganmo, Oba Kamaldeen Jimoh Akanbi, expressed gratitude to the government for finding him worthy of the appointment and promised to foster peace and unity across the length and breadth of Ganmo community.
