Ex-Kwara Finance Commissioner Joins Race for Federal Constituency Seat, Vows Security, Youth Skills Drive
Former Commissioner of Finance in the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Hon. Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi, on Friday officially declared her intention to run for the seat of member representing Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency.
Oyeyemi, who served as the Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign spokesperson during the 2023 general elections, made her declaration at a ceremony in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government, promising quality representation.
Declaring her intent, Oyeyemi promised representation that would benefit not only women but all demographics.
"Inclusive governance is key to sustainable development. I am committed to strengthening women's representation across all programmes and initiatives, guided by merit, proven capacity, track record, and strong grassroots connections.
"While advancing women's inclusion, we will maintain a balanced approach that ensures the needs of all demographics are addressed, fostering unity, fairness, and collective progress within our constituency," she said while declaring her intent.
In response to the current security challenges, Hon. Oyeyemi promised to promote stronger collaboration with national and state security agencies, while facilitating a constituency-based community security vanguard to complement existing structures, if elected.
"Our goal is to ensure our people live and work together in peace without fear," she said.
On youth employment and empowerment, the former Commissioner expressed readiness to facilitate digital skills training that would enhance employability, encourage entrepreneurship, and position youth for global opportunities.
"Our youth are very talented, and they are full of potential. I will facilitate digital skills training in areas such as cybersecurity, data science, artificial intelligence, software development, and more. This initiative will enhance employability, encourage entrepreneurship, and position our youth for global opportunities," Hon. Oyeyemi added.
The event was attended by the Ogun State Director of Contact Mobilisation for the City Boy Movement and Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mrs Angel Adelaja; the aspirant's husband, Chief Adedayo Oyeyemi; and the Chairman of the APC Elders Caucus in Irepodun Local Government, Prince Shuaib Olanrewaju.
Speakers at the forum took turns to canvass support for women's representation, with the aspirant presented as a preferred choice among the 11 persons vying for the Reps seat from the constituency.
Advancing reasons why the other local government areas should support Oyeyemi, elder statesman Prince Shuaib Olanrewaju said: "Because of what the Federal Government is preaching now gender sensitivity and of course because we know that this thing ought to go to Oke-Ero Local Government, I call on the four local government areas in the federal constituency to support Hon. Oyeyemi, for fairness, justice, and equity."
Mrs Adelaja, on her part, urged the people of Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency to rally support for Oyeyemi, saying she has all the network to facilitate development for the constituency.
"This is our time to make sure we have adequate representation. She has paid her dues as a Commissioner. She has the long network that will benefit you," she said.
The City Boy Movement Contact Director in Ogun also urged the people to support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu come 2027.
