Ahmed Counsels Christians

Date: 2013-02-15

Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, has urged Christians to use this year's Lenten period to deepening the teachings of love and oneness in the interest of national development.

"Since the Lenten season in Christendom marks a period of sober reflection, fasting and penitence in anticipation of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, it is imperative that the season is also used for a deeper and sober reflection on the State of affairs in our country", he advised.

Governor Ahmed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, equally urged Christians to use the Lenten period to pray fervently and work vigorously for peace and stability in Nigeria so that governments at all levels can deliver the essence of good governance to Nigerians across board.

According to the governor, "it is a known fact that no State or nation can develop in a state of anarchy or violence as resources and efforts directed towards containing violence and other forms of criminality could be properly channeled to the economic, industrial and infrastructural development of the country".

Governor Ahmed implored Christians and to pray for the state for peace, unity and growth as they commence the forty-day spiritual journey. The Governor also charged all Nigerians irrespective of their religious persuasions to work assiduously for the progress and stability of the country.
