Kwara MDAs Report Tangible Outcomes in Rural Electrification and Sustainable Economic Growth
The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and result-driven governance aimed at enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of its citizens. The administration showcased its achievements over the past three months during the third-quarter ministerial press briefing held in Ilorin, focusing on the activities of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) between April and September 2025.
Speaking at the briefing, Bola Olukoju, Commissioner for Communications, explained that the ministries and agencies have been actively translating government policies into tangible outcomes across various sectors.
Key Highlights from MDAs:
- Ministry of Planning and Economic Development: The Ministry has strengthened policies on budget performance monitoring, ensuring alignment with the state's development plans and expenditure framework. These efforts, she said, are reinforcing the foundation for sustainable economic growth.
- Ministry of Energy: The Ministry has continued its rural electrification projects to enhance safety and expand access to electricity in communities across the state through the procurement and installation of transformers.
- Ministry of Urban Development: The Ministry showcased ongoing housing projects, urban renewal initiatives, and strategic plans to modernize Ilorin and other urban centers in line with global standards.
Olukoju also noted that the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has made significant strides in strengthening traditional institutions, ensuring local government autonomy, and promoting peaceful coexistence across communities.
The Hospital Management Board, she said, has continued to improve healthcare delivery through innovations such as an appointment-booking system to reduce patient waiting time, as well as infrastructural upgrades to enhance access to medical care at both primary and secondary levels.
She further highlighted the Ministry of Social Development for implementing impactful programs targeting vulnerable groups, youth empowerment, and rehabilitation services, reflecting the administration's compassion and commitment to inclusive welfare.
In the education sector, the Ministry of Tertiary Education reported major progress in infrastructure, staff welfare, and institutional management across state-owned tertiary institutions, including the full take-off of the Kwara State University of Education - a milestone in building a knowledge-driven economy.
The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, according to her, has intensified efforts to formalize mining operations, attract investors, and promote responsible resource management to boost the state's internally generated revenue (IGR).
Olukoju reaffirmed the government's continued commitment to ensuring sustainable growth and the comfort of all Kwarans.
Also speaking, Hauwa Nuru, Commissioner for Finance, disclosed that the ministry is strategizing to strengthen the state's financial stability.
She clarified that the government has no plans to introduce new taxes, stating: "We will streamline existing taxes and restructure the collection modalities, which will take effect from January 2026. The Internal Revenue Service will review and approve the collection process, but no additional taxes will be imposed."
Nuru added that the government remains consistent in paying workers' salaries and implementing promotions as due.
"We pay salaries around the 25th of every month for both state and local government workers. For the third quarter alone, our IGR stood at N15.7 billion. With the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, we are committed to continually improving the welfare of Kwarans as the economy grows," she said.
In his submission, Ibrahim Sulyman, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, reaffirmed the government's dedication to upholding justice, promoting good governance, and ensuring equal access to legal services for all residents.
He described the Ministry of Justice as a service-oriented institution responsible for prosecuting criminal cases, defending the state in court, drafting and vetting legal documents, and providing professional legal advice to MDAs.
Sulyman explained that the ministry operates through six directorates and two specialized centers - all contributing to efficient justice delivery and quality public service.
"Our ministry continues to uphold the rule of law and ensure timely dispensation of justice. We have sustained our mandate by providing legal guidance to government agencies and offering free legal services through the Public Defender and Mediation Offices," he said.
Highlighting key achievements, Sulyman revealed that the Directorate of Legal Drafting prepared and vetted over 100 agreements and bills, generating a total revenue of N745,048,000 during the period under review.
He also noted that the Directorate of Personnel, Finance, and Supply handled staff promotions, budget exercises, and welfare matters, while the Directorate of Planning, Research, and Statistics played a critical role in budget preparation and data management.
The Attorney General further stated that the ministry has expanded access to justice through the Office of the Public Defender and the Citizen Mediation Centre, providing free legal representation and alternative dispute resolution services for indigent residents.
He commended the efforts of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit, which continues to provide legal support to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence while intensifying advocacy campaigns across schools and public institutions to raise awareness and prevent abuse.
"Our focus is not only on prosecuting offenders but also on preventing violence through education and sensitization," Sulyman emphasized.
He lauded the dedication of ministry staff across all directorates and assured that the government remains steadfast in strengthening the justice system and safeguarding the rights of every Kwara citizen.
