Kwara Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Primary Healthcare for Rural Communities
The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to repositioning and delivering quality healthcare services at the grassroots through sustained investment in the primary healthcare system.
A statement by the agency's Press Secretary, Bukola Abdulganiyu, quoted Elelu as making the pledge while receiving executives of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, stakeholders from Oke-Ero Local Government, and the Head of Department for Health in her office.
Elelu said the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had demonstrated strong political will in making healthcare accessible to citizens, particularly in underserved rural communities.
"The AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration has consistently demonstrated commitment towards making healthcare more accessible to every citizen, especially in underserved rural communities. The state has made huge investments in revitalising the primary healthcare sector, thus ensuring that quality services are brought closer to the people," she said.
She explained that more than 70 Primary Health Care centres had been renovated and equipped across the state, while several others were undergoing phased upgrades.
According to her, facilities have also been strengthened with essential medical equipment, solar-powered boreholes, and alternative power supplies to ensure round-the-clock service delivery.
The agency boss added that the state government had prioritised the regular supply of essential drugs, improved staffing, and enhanced human resources through recruitment and continuous training of nurses, midwives, and other health professionals.
To further improve efficiency, Elelu disclosed that the agency had deployed digital innovations to strengthen health information systems for better planning, monitoring, and accountability.
"Nurses and midwives are the backbone of our health system. The Kwara State Government acknowledges your sacrifices, your resilience and your dedication to saving lives. This administration will continue to invest in infrastructure, welfare, training and innovations that will empower you to deliver optimal services to our people. We remain committed to building a sustainable healthcare system that leaves no community behind," she said.
Elelu also highlighted the state's collaboration with development partners, including the United Nations Children's Fund and the World Health Organisation. She said such partnerships had expanded immunisation coverage, improved maternal and child health indicators, and strengthened the fight against preventable diseases such as polio, malaria, and measles.
