Armed Attackers Abduct Three Women in Awi Village, Kwara Security Forces Launch Forest Search
Unidentified armed assailants launched an attack on Awi village, a Fulani and Hausa settlement near Omu-Aran, Kwara State, shortly after midnight on Sunday, firing shots and sowing panic before abducting three women.
The victims—identified as Halimi Kadiri, Gaaje Yusuf, and Maria Isah, a nursing mother belong to the Fulani Bororo ethnic group. The assault, which occurred around 1:00 a.m. on 29 June 2025, left residents in distress as the attackers fled into the surrounding forested areas.
Community leader Danbare Sarki Fulani reported the incident to security authorities by 10:00 a.m., prompting a rapid deployment of police and local vigilante forces. A search operation was launched in nearby forests, with security teams intensifying efforts to locate the abductors and secure the release of the women.
The attack has raised concerns over escalating violence targeting Fulani communities in Kwara, with calls for urgent action to address the spate of insecurity in the region.
The Anti-Kidnapping Squad, AKS, stationed in Omu-Aran, in collaboration with nearby Divisional Police Officers and local security teams, initiated a joint rescue and recovery effort aimed at locating the victims and apprehending those responsible.
Police sources confirmed that an investigation is currently underway. Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being made to secure the safe return of the victims and maintain stability in the affected community.
