Kwara Launches Speedbreaker Project on Oko-Olowo Expressway to Tackle Accident Crisis
The Kwara State Government has initiated the installation of speedbreakers on the Oko-Olowo Expressway to reduce accidents and protect lives and property. The project, approved by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and led by the Ministry of Works under Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, responds to persistent community reports of collisions on the road.
The intervention follows longstanding calls for action, which were reportedly overlooked during the previous administration. In April, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed efforts to secure approval for the temporary safety measure.
Residents confirmed on Monday that construction of the speedbreakers has commenced on both sides of the busy expressway.
Ibraheem Abdullateef Akolu, the Senior Special Assistant on Communication to the Governor, underscored the administration's commitment during a community assessment of the construction. He reaffirmed the Governor's reputation as a "promise keeper."
Additionally, Abdullateef mentioned that FRSC officials have been strategically positioned at various points along the Shao-Oko-Olowo junction to enforce traffic regulations and ensure the safety of the community.
Community members have expressed their gratitude for this timely intervention, praising the Governor as a proactive and responsive leader who prioritizes the safety and welfare of the state's citizens.
