Kwara Government Warns Transporters Against Illegal Motor Parks Amid Safety Push
The Kwara State Government has issued a stern warning to commercial transport operators against using unauthorized garages and motor parks, citing safety concerns.
Speaking during a joint inspection exercise in Ilorin metropolis with the State Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and Kwara Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), Transportation Commissioner Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi emphasized the need to adhere to official motor parks to protect public safety and align with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's vision of modernizing traffic management systems.
The commissioner stated that non-compliance could lead to legal consequences. The inspection, which covered major areas including Post-Office, Challenge, Offa Garage, Adisco, and Baba Ode-Ita-Elepa axis, forms part of the government's campaign to eliminate unauthorised transport hubs and enforce stricter regulations.
Advising commuters on security consciousness, the Commissioner, appealed that commuters should only patronize government-approved motor parks, where vehicle documentation, operational standards are strictly monitored and enforced.
The Commissioner, however, revealed that work is ongoing towards having an accurate database of all recognized garages across the State; aimed at strengthening security and enhancing smooth coordination of the transport system for the State.
Also, on the Commissioner's entourage, were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Salau Kabiru Abdullahi; Directors of the Ministry, Chief Executive Officer, KWARTMA, Mr. Suleiman Abdullahi Oba; Chief Vehicles Inspection Officer, Engr. Ayuba Isiaq; other members of the Ministry and the State road traffic officers.
