Keep Our Roads Clear: Kwara Govt Issues Final Warning to Sidewalk Traders

Date: 2025-04-16

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its enforcement of anti-street trading regulations, urging residents and traders to respect public spaces and avoid converting walkways and newly refurbished roads into unauthorised markets.

The prohibition applies to key areas in Ilorin Metropolis, including Emir's Road, Zulu Gambari Road, Post Office Area, Isale Oja, and Idi Ape. These roads, recently upgraded to improve traffic flow, safety, and urban aesthetics, must not be obstructed by makeshift stalls.

In a statement on Wednesday, the government warned that non-compliance jeopardises pedestrian and vehicular movement, undermines safety investments, and tarnishes the city's image. Officials emphasised that persistent violations would attract penalties under state laws.

Henceforth, anyone found trading in these areas-or on any public walkway-will face the full wrath of the law. Relevant task forces and security agencies have been deployed to maintain sanity.

We urge all traders and vendors to leave the walkways and relocate to approved markets and trading zones. Let's work together to keep Kwara clean, safe, and organised.

This is your State. This is your responsibility. Obey the law. Respect public space.
