IEYDA Pleads for Peaceful Resolution to Ilorin's Religious Leadership Dispute
The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA), under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Emir of Ilorin, has called for urgent intervention by emirate authorities and stakeholders to resolve the ongoing dispute between Mudirul Markaz, Sheikh Habeebullahi Adam Al-Ilory, OON, and the Grand Mufty of Ilorin, Sheikh Suleiman Faruq Onikijipa Al-Miskinu-Billahi, OON.
This appeal was outlined in a press statement shared with Just Event Online TV on Monday, urging both parties to engage in peaceful dialogue to preserve Islamic heritage and communal harmony in Ilorin. IEYDA's National President, Alh. Muhammed Uthman Jagunmo, stressed the importance of unity and respect for religious leadership, stating that the conflict risks fracturing the social fabric of the emirate.
The association emphasized the need to address differences amicably, aligning with Islamic principles of brotherhood and conflict resolution. It also called on all involved to seek divine guidance and maintain the sacred values that underpin the Ilorin community's cohesion.
"The clash between our respected leaders is disheartening and has raised concerns about potential division and disruption within the Emirate," - Alh. Abdullahi Abdulfatahi Oloyin, IEYDA National Publicity Secretary.
IEYDA, representing the voice of the youth in the Emirate, calls upon elders, religious leaders, and key community figures to facilitate discussions leading to an amicable resolution, safeguarding the peace and harmony that Ilorin Emirate is known for.
"We understand disagreements are inevitable, but we implore all parties to prioritize the greater good, resolving the situation swiftly and respectfully. Our focus is on maintaining peace, respect, and unity, integral to our cultural heritage and Islam," emphasizes IEYDA National President, Alhaji Muhammed Uthman Jagunmo.
The Ilorin Emirate Youth then appealed to both parties in the name of Allah, Prophet Muhammed, our Emir of Ilorin and in the spirit of the blessed month of Ramadan, to put aside their differences and resolve this crisis amicably.
IEYDA urges calmness among the general public, cautioning against inflammatory statements and actions that could escalate tensions. The organization stresses upholding the Emirate's dignity and supporting peaceful resolution efforts.
The association also warned individuals and groups attempting to sow discord among Ilorin Emirate scholars to desist from actions threatening communal harmony. The organization remains committed to protecting the Emirate's integrity and unity against divisive forces.
In conclusion, IEYDA prays for peaceful coexistence, affirming its commitment to ensuring a prosperous future for Ilorin. Through collective efforts, IEYDA believes challenges can be turned into opportunities for greater unity and progress.
