'Lack of planning bane of education'

Date: 2013-01-24

A retired Professor of Education Psychology, Shehu Ahmad Jimoh has identified absence of strategic planning as the bane of Nigeria educational institutions. Jimoh, who is the chairman, Governing Council of Kwara state Polytechnic, Ilorin said strategic planning is an imperative to move the education sector and the nation forward. Speaking yesterday at a one-day strategic planning workshop organised by the polytechnic, the university don lamented that most of the country’s programmes are "regime-based policies" which according to him, "cannot move an institution, a state or a country forward". He recalled that policies of previous Nigerian governments have fizzled out because "they were based on the person in power and not a strategic planning"
