Date: 2024-07-05

According to a news report from the Kwara State Government Facebook Page, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has declared Monday, 8 July 2024, a public holiday in commemoration of the new Hijrah Year, Muharram 1446.

Muharram, the first month in the Muslim lunar calendar, is set to begin on Sunday, 7 July 2024, prompting the Governor's thoughtful gesture.

In his message, Governor AbdulRazaq recognises the mixed emotions that this occasion evokes for Muslims, encouraging a period of introspection for the community. He emphasises the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and justice, which are integral to Islamic teachings.

The Governor extends his warmest wishes for a blessed Hijrah New Year to the Muslim community, praying that Allah bestows His blessings upon all and guides the community towards righteousness.

This thoughtful announcement by the Kwara State Government ensures that Muslims in the state can observe this important occasion with peace and reflection.
