Illegal Mining: Commissioner Seeks EFCC-DSS Collaboration
According to a news report from the Daily Post, Kwara State's Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, Dr Afeez Abolore Alabi, has urged Nigeria's leading security agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), to unite in tackling the growing problem of illegal mining in the state.
During courtesy visits to the headquarters of these agencies in Ilorin, Dr Alabi emphasised the need for collaboration to address the negative impact of illegal mining on state revenues.
The EFCC's zonal director, Harry Erin, pledged to work with the ministry to eradicate illegal mining, while also calling for greater stakeholder involvement to reduce revenue losses.
Similarly, the State Director, DSS, on his part, said Kwara was blessed with varieties of quality mineral resources, with great revenue potentials to the state government.
He therefore urged the state government to evolve strategies and put up programmes that would empower the youths, adding, “The more we get them involved in productive activities, the better for our society.”
