Kwara poly loses sensitive documents to early morning fire
Early morning fire Wednesday gutted Kwara state polytechnic, Ilorin. Sensitive documents, several splits air condition and furniture among others were lost to the fire inferno.
Rector,Alh.Moshood Elelu who confirmed the development in an interview with journalists said cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained at the press time. He also said no life was lost and that the loss could not be quantified as at the time of the interview.
According to the rector,"About 1.30am on Wednesday, there was a fire that gutted some offices of the Directorate of Student Services. About five rooms were affected".
"We called the fire brigade and they were there and all our principal officers. We were able to bring the fire under control before it spread to other academic areas".
He added that," Some files were destroyed and documents that were in the file cabinet and some air conditioners. We can not quantify the loss".
He also said that there was not loss of lives or injury,stressing that Nothing happened to anybody in the campus," I was there up throughout".
He noted that,"The fire started about 1.30am, the fire brigade came in about 2.25am and by 3.15am the fire was put off. We alerted the two offices of the fire brigade and they came. We are happy with them". He however said that the fire incident," will not lead to stoppage of academic activities", even though only some offices used for storing of some documents were affected.
"We are on. Infact right now, examination will start next week. Normal activities are going on".he. Said.
The rector commended the students for assisting in putting out the fire," We are writing them for to show our appreciation. We have also informed the necessary authorities". he stressed. He also said that the management will investigate the fire incident so as to prevent re occurrence.
"We would not know the cause of the fire. We are investigating. The Council is meeting tomorrow and we will thoroughly investigate it to prevent a recurrence". he said.
