No Communal Clash in Kwara Says Secretary to Government

Date: 2013-01-07

Kwara State Government said on Sunday said that there was no communal clash in any of the communities in the state. Isiaka Gold, the Secretary to the State Government, made the clarification in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on media and communication, Muyideen Akorede.

The statement stated Gold advised the people of the state to go about their normal business without hindrance. He said the only clashes recorded was between the some members of transport unions in Offa and ErinIie which has been settled; quoting the SSG as saying: "the law enforcement agents had brought the clash that occurred between members of transport unions in Offa and ErinIie under control.

"Offa and EriniIe communities are now living in peace and harmony since then. I will advise individuals or groups with grievance or disagreement to utilise lawful channels for dispute resolution," it stated, warning that government would deal ruthlessly with anybody or group of persons found disrupting the peaceful coexistence in the state regardless of their position.
