Kwara Govt Slams PDP For “Unprovoked Falsehood” “Arrogance”
The Kwara State government on Tuesday criticized the opposition party, People Democratic Party (PDP) for what it calls “unprovoked falsehood” and “arrogance” displayed in their recent press conference held on October 10, 2023.
In a scathing response to the PDP's statements, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye accused the party of being dishonest and stuck in the past.
Ajakaye particularly highlighted the PDP's inconsistency regarding the state's financial records during their administration.
He pointed out that former Governor Abdulfatahi Ahmed had initially stated that they left N5 billion in the state treasury, but later, a PDP chieftain claimed they left N8.5 billion, and in their recent press briefing, the PDP chairman asserted they left over N10 billion.
These conflicting figures, according to Ajakaye, epitomize the party's lack of credibility.
Furthermore, Ajakaye criticized the PDP for conveniently omitting the fact that their administration left a public debt of at least N100 billion, including a dollar component.
He emphasized that the Kwara PDP's inconsistencies and blatant falsehoods are the reasons why the people of Kwara have rejected them in two consecutive electoral cycles.
Ajakaye also pointed out that the financial records of the administration are readily available on the state government's official website, where budget implementation reports are constantly uploaded and acknowledged as credible by various pro-transparency organizations.
He, however, urged the PDP to stop changing figures and be honest about their record.
Ajakaye took the opportunity to highlight Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration's accomplishments, stating that they accessed a total of N27.260 billion in 2021, which was used for various projects, including road construction, garment factories, flyovers, and more. He said that the projects are ongoing and steadily funded through the bond as they reach different milestones.
Ajakaye characterized the Kwara PDP as a party of dishonest politicians who lack respect for the truth in their public statements.
He asserted that the party and its leaders belong in the “political dustbin of history” and called on them to abandon their culture of lying if they hope to regain public trust.
