Kwara First Lady Commissions Sexual Assault Referral Center
The First Lady of Kwara State and Founder Ajike People Support Center, Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq has commissioned the Sobi Sexual Assault Referral Center located within the premises of Kwara State Specialist Hospital Alagbado Ilorin, North Central Nigeria.
To consolidate on the gains recorded in the fight against sexual and gender based violence, ambassador AbdulRazaq noted that centers like this became imperative to provide support and care of survivors of sexual and gender based violence.
Ambassador AbdulRazaq commended the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his kind disposition to the cause of women saying that this is evident in his assent to the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act and the Gender Inclusion Bill which ultimately reflected in his appointment of women and youth as state officials and thanked the governor for providing a space for the project.
The first lady commended the Nigeria Governors Wives' Forum for providing the funds to execute the project while also appreciating the Kwara State committee on sexual and gender based violence, the Ministry of Women Affairs, Health , Justice, Glowoc and other Civil Society Organisations for working tirelessly for the success of the project.
Amplifying awareness
Kwara State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Maryam Hassana appreciated the First Lady and the Nigeria Governors Wives' Forum for leading the fight against sexual and gender based violence from the front and commended the State Committee on Sexual and gender based violence for amplifying awareness on sexual and gender based violence.
Also the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rasak Raji thanked the first lady for always making the welfare of Kwarans her core concern and appreciated the Nigeria Governors Wives' Forum for financing the project while assuring that the facility will be properly managed for optimum performance and service delivery.
The commissioning was witnessed by members of the State Executive Council, Top Government Functionaries, Traditional and Religious leaders and members of Civil Society Organisations.
