Three people believed to be working for one of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) chieftains in Kwara State have been arrested by security agents at Ilorin Grammar School, for allegedly causing a breakdown of law and order during the party's membership registration exercise.

The people were alleged to have shot sporadically into the air to scare away prospective ACN members and made away with the register supplied each unit by the national office of the party.

The incident came few days after a chieftain of the party, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo was attacked at Bovina Hotel, Ilorin, during which one of his followers was wounded and had to be admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

"It is really an unfortunate development and shameful," a source within the party said on Sunday, adding that "go to 'B' Division in Surulere right now, the boys are there with the police. We are insisting that they must produce those who shot the guns if they deny responsibility and they must also give us the register, because we have to return it to the national office."

The crisis rocking the state chapter of the party is believed to be the outcome of the leadership tussle between two leading ACN leaders in the state, as supporters of each faction continued to point finger to the other for the lingering crisis.

Spokesman for the state police command, Mr Olufemi Fabode, said he was yet to get proper briefing, adding that he was just returning from an official trip when he was contacted.
