Industrialist Urges Nigerian Electorate to Stop Retrying Old Politicians

Date: 2021-10-05

Ahead of the 2023 general election, a foremost industrialist, Dauda Kamil, at the weekend said it was high time the Nigerian electorate had a change of mind in retrying politicians that have been in power for over 30 or 40 years.

Kamil, therefore, called for fresh personalities that have good qualities and exposures so as to help fix the current challenges facing the country.

Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State, during a road show to sensitise Nigerians to have hope in the country, Kamil decried the situations in the country, adding that these challenges have to be fixed by us and not outsiders.

The road show was organised by a non-governmental organisation, The Nigeria Workforce Strategy and Enlightenment Centre (NIWOSEC), in conjunction with Alhaji Dauda Okolere Foundation to mark the 61st Independence anniversary celebration of the country.

The theme of the show is: 'Stay, Don't Go! We can Fix It Together'.

He said the essence of power is to bring new lease of life to Nigerians and not to steal the public funds.

Kamil stated that: "We have few individuals that have siphoned our money bringing it back and using it against us during polls.

"And Nigerians are bad followers; we take the money from them and we vote them back without asking them their scorecard or what they have done in the past when they were elected.

"It is high time we gave the chance to new people; people who are coming to government not to make money, people who have comfortable life, and love this country and the people, and not those who do not have anything but just want to enrich themselves when they assumed power."

Kamil, who is also a founder of Alhaji Kamil Okokere Foundation, added that: "Retrying people who have been in power for over 30 or 40 years without anything to show for it should not be allowed to lead us again in the next elections.

"We want people to believe in Nigeria; believe in themselves and put their best at all times so we don't need to run away from Nigeria. Who is going to fix Nigeria? This is our country, this is our home and we must be ready to fix the country for ourselves."
